Of course, in thinking about the space, you need to keep in mind the budget and guest list as well.
It really doesn’t matter if you’re thinking about holding the event at your home, at a public park, an event space or any other place, these are the four considerations to think about:

Why is location so important? Because it impacts every other decision you’ll make. The reality is that in any geographic location, there are a finite number of venues available. Many of these are booked a year in advance, will break your budget, are too remote for your guests and/or will not accommodate the size of your event.
Because a venue, other than your home, is one of the two big ticket items in your budget (along with the food & beverages) and it sets the tone, it’s important to get it right. Before setting your heart on a space in the perfect location, make sure that it can accommodate your date, time, budget and guest list.
Your challenge in finding the perfect space is to balance the following attributes within your chosen location: the size of the venue, the amenities including parking or accessibility to public transportation, ambiance and cost.
So, what’s most important to you? If cost is the most critical concern, you may need to choose a venue that’s not ideal in terms of location and/or ambiance. However, if ambiance is your most important consideration, you might have to change your plan if you set sights on a venue that fits your vision in this area but will be a tight squeeze for your guests or is too remote.
What if the perfect venue in the perfect location is out of your budget? What if you find out its booked for your date? What if it’s perfect in every way but your guests will find that parking is a problem or very expensive?
Here’s what we suggest:
start by identifying the geographic location that works for you and your guests. Location, Location, Location should be your primary concern
make a list of every venue within this geographic area that that meets the “everything else” criteria: your date, will fit your guests comfortably, has the ambiance your desire and won’t break your budget. Don’t limit yourself to traditional venues that other friends & relatives have used or suggest to you as “the one you must have.” Think outside the box, be creative & think unique: an airplane hanger, an aquarium, a public park, an automobile showroom, an arboretum, a museum, or roller skating rink. A good friend of mine held her wedding reception at the bowling alley where she & her husband met – it was certainly out of the ordinary but fun for us and perfect for them.
